Hats, fashion, and Sun

Lovely big hats to off formal daywear, and – as long as you can keep them on – they solve all hairstyle dilemmas at the stab of a hatpin. Big hats look good on tall women with slim-fitting suits or dresses.

A big hat, full skirt and baggy to equal a fashion disaster and, if the wind gets up, probably a hazard to surrounding cars and motorbikes.

Social kissing in big hats is something to practice. Imagine two ladies in cartwheels of hats approaching each other for ‘mwah mwah’. It’s best to approach with your head slightly tilted one way or another, so the approaching hat picks up the hint and tilts her head the other way.

The secret of looking ladylike with a hat on is a question of balance. Overwrought hair and hats do not mix well. Look at the outfit as a whole in a full-length mirror. Be mindful of colour coordination and silhouette, and bear in mind hat practicalities: will you have to slip through doors sideways; will people be sitting in the row behind you have to use periscopes to see?

Enjoy this magical summer!

How to keep you clothes longer?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]1 / Do not spray perfume on your clothes!

It is designed to be sprayed on your skin and interact with your body’s chemistry. It contains an alcohol base as well as chemical fixatives which will damage the fabric over time.

2 / Do steam not iron!

Again the material will lose its lustre over time if you iron it too much.

3 / Zip everything before washing

You have unfortunately left some zips open in the machine … Oops! Real little tornadoes, these smart little ones have taken away all the threads of your favourite top!

4 / Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Too often we have to put our laundry to bed without first consulting the small labels sewn on the back of the garment. They often provide valuable advice, such as putting velvet and denim clothing upside down before washing, washing delicate items only with cold water, or not using a tumble dryer.

5 / Invest in quality hangers

Even the wooden ones can be a nightmare to deal with when they are not of the best quality taking away the threads of our favourite Yves St Laurent dress! [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
